The much-awaited iPhone X, vocalized “iPhone 10.” was presented at Apple’s September 2017 event along with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. By launching the new iPhone X, the company made various changes from the previous models of iPhone. One of such stunning change is the all-new display. By eliminating the bezels, the front facing display melts and disappears into a polished stainless steel curved-edge band that encloses a strong and study all-glass body that is available in two beautiful finishes: Space Gray and Silver. Both have a black front panel. It’s an iPhone that’s all display. Apart from this, there are many other changes and included features to the new iPhone 10.
Let’s break them down individually:
I. 5.8″ OLED display (Edge-to-edge display):
The all-new edge-to-edge top-to-bottom super retina display utilizes OLED technology for deep blacks, million-to-one contrast ratio, and true-to-life colors. It equips a 2436 x 1125 resolution which has a pixel density of 458 pixels per inch. Also, it supports 3D touch, HDR, wide color and true tone for correcting the white balance.
II. The absence of a Home Button:
With the new incorporated edge-to-edge top-to-bottom design, there is no room for a home button. Hence, swipe on the bottom of the screen will take you to the home screen, while a swipe along with a hold brings up the app switcher.
III. Face ID and the new A11 Bionic chip:
With the absence of a home button, Apple came up with a new technology known as Face ID or facial recognition system. It utilizes the True Depth front-facing camera system to generate a 3D map of your face to unlock your iPhone. Apart from unlocking, face ID can access passcode protected application, authenticate apple pay purchases and app store purchases.
Face ID creates a 3D map of your face that is much like a fingerprint by using infrared camera technology meaning that it can work in any lighting condition including in complete darkness.
It is powered by a dual-core neural engine which is built into the new A11 Bionic chip. The chip includes a total of 6 cores with four high-efficiency cores and two performance cores. All the six cores can be utilized simultaneously for a much-improved speed and performance. It also incorporates a fast GPU for excellent graphics performance.
IV. Wireless inductive charging:
The new iPhone has adopted Qi wireless standard that enables to charge the device through the glass back using any Qi-certified charger.
The true depth camera that powers the face ID enables users to a new feature called Animoji. They are 3D emoji that can imitate the user’s facial expressions.
VI. Battery life:
Due to the efficiency of the new A11 Bionic chip, the iPhone X can last longer than the iPhone 7 by 2 hours. It uses a 2,716 mAh battery that supports fast charging and wireless charging.
VII. Pricing in Singapore:
The iPhone X Singapore price will be SG$1,648 for the 64GB model and SG$1,888 for the 256GB model. They are available in both silver and space grey.
